DUT alumnus and Veteran journalist and radio presenter Xolani Gwala has been reported dead after losing a battle to cancer.

Three years after Gwala confirmed that he was diagnosed with colon cancer in a radio interview with 702, he has sadly lost his life to it this Friday morning. Gwala said the cancer was quite advanced but he was positive that is a battle he is willing to fight.

Gwala has since been a darling from his days as a host of Asikhulume, a current affairs talk show that aired on the SABC on Sundays. Before and after that he has worked as a reporter, news anchor, producer and radio personality. His work ethic and lifetime experience has been one of his outstanding characters and will forever be remembered in the industry.

His passing has come as a shock to the whole country and tributes on socials have been pouring in since the report.

From the DUT community, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Gwala family and the broadcasting industry. As aspiring journalists, you have played the role and inspired greatness, may your work ethic and legacy live on to inspire many
