University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) students are expected to gather today at their respective campuses to observe a moment of silence and hold a peaceful march in condemnation of all forms of violence.

This after a student Simukele Zondi was found burned in the bushes near the rugby field at Westville campus on Saturday morning, which resulted to one student being arrested in connection with the murder.

In some reports, it is said the victim and the deceased were roommates and the deceased had been missing on Thursday.

In a video that was shared and trended on social media during the weekend, the accused is heard confessing to murdering the deceased. He even calls the deceased ‘Umkhovu’, a zombie.

UKZN spokesperson Ashton Bodrick confirmed that the accused was handed over by The Risk Management team of the University on Saturday and was arrested.

He is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates court on Monday.

The gathering that is expected to take place on Monday (14 October) at 13h00. Students have been encouraged to wear the colours black and red.
