Besides the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, there is a number of bursaries that students can apply for funding from.

  • Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust

In 1996, Cyril Ramaphosa began supporting a small number of disadvantaged students with bursaries, so that they can attend university. He did this by donating the money he earned through his public speaking engagements. This developed into the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) in 2000.

Vodacom’s Open Bursary Scheme awards bursaries, based on merit and need, to students who successfully pass their matric exams. Vodacom awards 110 bursaries every year to attend local universities. Bursaries cover tuition, books, meals, transport and accommodation.
