A strike that was suspected to take place at the Durban University of Technology took place this morning!

This is after students have been writing statements on the SRC Facebook page that they will not set foot on campus until their needs have been met. The SRC released also released a statement on Friday that points out all the problems that the students are facing in getting ready for this new semester.

In the statement, the SRC claims that they have been meeting with the University’s management team and the meetings have not yielded any results.

“On the 19 of July we had a meeting with the management to resolve student issue. Even yesterday there was another meeting that did not yield any results,” they said in the statement.

In this statement there is also a list of other issues that they claim students are faced with. One of the issues is that students have been receiving SMS’s that says they are not registered. Registered students have not yet received their allowances as promised, students have been excluded from residences and temporary residences have not been provided for them.

Students who have appealed for NSFAS are still awaiting response and cannot register, and some have been rejected and are not funded. The list goes on to BTech students not being able to register because of funding and the biggest matter of the SRC president who is suspended.

The suspension of Godlimpi and other SRC members has been one of the burning issues, because they claim the suspension to have been unfair.

There is heavy police presence at Steve Biko Campus.
