SRC President Suspended

The Durban University of Technology SRC President Sesiyanda Godlimpi shared a letter of his suspension on the Facebook page used to communicate with students.

On the post, Godlimpi states that he was suspended for fighting for a black marginalized child. “We were suspended because we demanded that all the students that were attending classes throughout the year must be registered with the SRC’s budget,” he stated on the Facebook post.

The letter states that Gondlimpi has been suspended in terms of Rule SR3 (2), and there’s a pending investigation of serious misconduct of verbal and physical threats to a DUT staff member.

According to the letter he is prohibited to participate in any student academic and/or non-academic activities pending the investigation.

He is also prohibited from entering any DUT campuses in both Durban and Midlands, he is prohibited from DUT residences and was expected to vacate his residence by no later than 14h00 on Monday 3 June, until further notice in writing.

Gondlimpi is expected to make and submit representations by 6 June 2019 on why the suspension should not be carried out. This is a developing story and more details will discussed once the verdict has been out.
