Sports Updates: PSL, CAF Confed, CAF Championship League

Bidvest Wits missed a chance of moving 5 points clear of Orlando Pirates after playing six-goal thriller with Polakwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday.

The match got off a lively start, however the fist goal was scored on 24 minutes following Polokwane’s Jabu Maluleka free-kick that was flicked by Bongile Booi.

The game went to the half-time with both teams recorded two goals.

With 11 minutes remaining Maluleka, who has been the most outstanding player in the match, converterd the set-piece and found the back of the net, making it 3-3.

The encounter ended all square after Haashim Domingo had found the back of the net for his side, but his goal was ruled offside.

In other news, Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Conderation Cup journey came to an end after being beaten by Zambian giants Zesco United in the second leg of their play-off round tie. Chiefs needed a big performance to overturn the 3-1 defeat.

The remaining stages of the second half proved to be quite easy for the Zambians as the Amakhosi struggled in the final third. Chiefs’ forward, Khama Billiat did pull a goal back in second-half stoppage time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the visitors ran out 2-1 winners on the night and 5-2 on aggregate score.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates kept their promising run in the CAF Champions League after claiming victories in their matches against Wydad Casablanca and Horoya AC on weekend.
