The DUT Disability Rights Unit to host a disability action plan workshop for staff members.

The one-day event, which is to take place at Riverside hotel on 17 July 2019, is to bridge the gap between students living with disabilities and staff.

The workshop aims to:

  • Sensitize the university community and the travails living with disabilities and share possible solutions.
  • Explore and canvas common approach of the university to issues of students living with disabilities.
  • Explore relationships with partners who can be of help in our endeavours to help students living with disabilities.

The Unit’s Gugu Sacolo said that this event is important for the staff a work shop on the issues faced with such students.

“Students always come back (to us) to report the issues that the face both at Res and in class and we have realised this is because our staff don’t have a deep understanding with dealing with such issues”, said Sacolo.

Also to be in attendance is the SRC and two students living with disabilities.

“We are also focusing on the decision makers who can implement the necessary changes that might be needed”, added Sacolo.

Staff members have until end of business day on Friday 12 July to RSVP.
