Rhodes University “complicit” in Khensani Maseko’s death

Tributes continue to pour in for Khensani Maseko, a Rhodes University student who took her life at her Johannesburg home this weekend.

Yesterday students participated in an organized shutdown, whereby the student body brought forward, what they claim are countless claims of sexual abuse at the institution.

SRC president Nhlakanipho Mhlangu addressed students by chanting the customary “AMANDLA” the grief stricken students responded by saying ‘’ASINAWO”

”I’m not dealing at this very moment” commented one student when asked how the current situation at Rhodes University was.

The University has declared a two day mourning period, where students are encouraged to reflect on the of the Maseko, and visit counselling departments if need be, during this time classes will be suspended and flags will fly at half mast.

Students have asked University officials to provide far more than counselling, but actual action when it comes to claims being taken seriously and steps being taken to suspend the accused.
