Sandile Ndlovu who died in hospital after being attacked on a DUT campus

On Saturday morning DUT students and the rest of the county woke up to the shocking news of the death of Sandile Ndlovu.

Ndlovu (18) was a DUT first year industrial engineering student who was attacked on campus two weeks ago.

He was attacked and suffered a fractured skull which saw him land in ICU.

Family Spokesperson Tshepo Mokoena shared the news of his passing on Twitter.

“It is with great pain and sadness to inform you that Sandile has passed on this morning to be with the lord,” tweeted Mokoena.

This then sent shock waves across the DUT community as students flocked to social media to send their tributes and frustrations using the hashtag #RIPSandile.

The university also released a statement on Saturday sending their condolences.

“Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with his family, friends, and his classmates at this very difficult time.”

Meanwhile, Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Blade Nzimande has reacted to the passing of Ndlovu saying that the university must work

The SRC held a media briefing on Monday morning and said that Ndlovu “died a heroic death.”

“We want to give assurance to the family that Sandile’s death was not in vein,” said SRC President Thamsanqa Memela.

“DUT remain a crime scene, students are robbed and killed within what’s suppose to be the safest environment to produce ideas..” continued Memela.

Details of the funeral haven’t been announced yet.
