[READ] ‘REVENGE PORN’ COULD NOW LAND YOU IN JAIL

The sharing of nudes might be fun and games but not when a bitter ex decides to share them on social media to shame you.

This is (revenge porn) could now land you in jail or pay a huge amount of cash.

All thanks to the new Act that President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law.

The Film and Publications Amendment Bill aims to protect children from disturbing and harmful content, and also regulate the online distribution of content such as films and games.

If a person knowingly distributes any private ‘nudes’ or films in order to course harm to the victim, they can face up to 4 years in prison and might pay a fine up R300000 should the victim be identifiable through the material.

Also part of the new law is new stricter hate speech fines.

Those who share hate speech on any platform including the internet might be forced to regret it deeply.

There is a maximum of two years imprisonment if found guilty to be advocating for hate speech, to incite imminent violence & or propaganda for war, with a possible fine of R150000.

Many people have welcomed this Bill, whereas some say it might be a way to censor the internet. What is your take?
