[PODCAST] The Art Gallery Is Open!

It’s the exam period and you need a little bit of inspiration in your life, right?

Well, the good news is that for the next two weeks the art gallery is open for you to go experience ‘Zeitgeist Africa: A contemporary art lens’.

This exhibition is brought to you by the Fine Art Department produced by 8 B-Tech students under the stewardship of Themba Shibase and Carla da Crus to coincide with Africa month 2019.

The exhibition is said to show the contributors’ artistic ways that “grapples with some aspects of Africa’s on-going search for her rightful place within broader humanity.”

The Afternoon Shutdown’s Matt Tsolo got to hang out with two of the exhibitors Menzi Ngobese and Kenneth Shandu.

They spoke about the exhibition and also their creations.

Kenneth Shandu said that “we are challenging everything that is happening today,” in an African context and it is “a hit!”

Some students are focusing on gender, homelessness and economic issues in Africa.

Ngobese said he has been working on his art from the beginning of the year.

“I am potraying the life of people living in informal settlements.” Said Ngobese.

Finally you don’t need to pay a single cent for you to get lost in the art. The art gallery is at the top of the Steve Biko Library, open every day from 8am-4pm.
