GRANT BENEFICIARIES SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE NSFAS FUNDING SAYS MINISTER

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini says social grant beneficiaries who are academically deserving will automatically qualify for NSFAS funding.

Department of Social Development and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) announced that 180 000 social grant beneficiaries wrote their matric exams in 2016.More than 80% of them obtained a diploma or degree pass.

Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini congratulated the 2016 matriculants who passed with distinctions and those who qualified to study at tertiaries, and said that they should automatically receive National Student Funding Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

According to the minister grant beneficiaries who got distinctions should automatically qualify for the NSFAS funding and she used the example of a matriculants grant beneficiary who received seven distinctions and intends on pursing a medical degree.

The minister praises the existing relationship between the Department of Social Development, NSFAS and the SASSA for a great job in giving hope to the disadvantaged, orphaned and vulnerable children.
She adds that female learners outdid themselves compared to the males.
