Clap your hands for your National champions!

Enactus DUT team with their trophy after winning the National Championship in Johannesburg.

DUT Enactus has beat over 20 other universities at the Enactus South Africa 2019 National competition retaining their glory for the second time round.

This is the second time a University of Technology won the competition, after they made history at last year’s event becoming the first.

This win will see the team flying off to the United States to represent not only the institution but the country!

Sondelani Mwandla said they are very happy.

“It has been a journey”, said Mwandla.

“Enactus competitions are challenging, team-oriented events that create a sense of accountability and motivation for teams to continually improve the quality of their projects.”

The DUT team has worked very hard with their current project which is currently running in 3 communities across the Province.

They have built greenhouse structures using recycled materials and introduced vertical farming which they say it is more sustainable. This project has had an impact of about 20000 people directly and indirectly with employment opportunities also created.

Going into the Global stage, the team say they want to have a higher impact in the communities that they serve.

“We need a month’s time we need to build 10 greenhouse structures in 10 communities”, said Mwandla.

“We would like to impact about 50000 people upwards”.

The team is now getting their passports and visas ready ahead of their trip to the States in September. From Radiodut.co.za, we wish you all the best.
